Equitable Access License
From Florida Free Culture Wiki
The Equitable Access License (EAL) is a patent license designed by Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM). The license is designed for universities licening medical technologies they've patented to pharmaceutical companies for production. The license requires the pharmaceutical company to allow generics to be sold in the Third World -- so the cost of exclusive patent licensing is removed for the world's poorest countries. Lowering this barrier can reduce the cost of medicine to the world's poorest.
FFC supports the EAL as part of our mission to "to promote intellectual property policy in the public interest".
