Derek Slater EFF Speech
From Florida Free Culture Wiki
When Free Culture chapters create events, the EFF can send stickers and speakers. People should be engaging in digital media. P2P is a red herring; the music industry wants to take away your rights and sell them back to you.

The threat to the music industry is that we are redigitizing analog into unencrypted formats and putting them on our iPods and home networks. Digital media is changing. Slingbox, which depends on analog, allows you to watch television on your computer. Or check out the Neuros mpeg recorder, which records music onto a compact flash card that you can transfer to your computer.
Free Culture is good with remixing, and letting people know that the media is taking your digital rights away and selling them back to you. You need to demonstrate what freedom is, and what locked down is. These aren't political issues, these are property rights. "I own it but they still control it."
The debate for Free Culture needs shifted to new tools, and away from the kind of debate that bogged down P2P.
