Panel on open access research: Thursday, Feb. 15

Shouldn’t the way we share research be as advanced as the Internet?

Florida Free Culture and Universities Allied for Essential Medicine present a panel on access to research. Come hear from students, researchers, and librarians on how open access is changing science — and how you can get involved.

The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 pm in CSE room E221. (The Computer Science & Engineering building is located near the Hub, on Turlington Plaza between Marston Science Library and Turlington Hall.)

For more information, visit the student resource page from the Alliance for Taxpayer Access.

Funded by Student Government.

Alligator editorial on Apple v. Apple

“Apples to apples,” editorial, Independent Florida Alligator, 6 February 2007.

We don’t understand why this lawsuit (or some variant of it) has been raging on between these two companies for almost 30 - yes, 30 - years. Their logos don’t even look similar…

And next week:

Electronic Privacy at our next meeting

Our next meeting on February 5th (Turlington 1315, 6:30pm) will be about electronic privacy. We’ll be watching parts of Big Brother, Big Business (Google Video link) and having a discussion afterwards.

Remember that this meeting will be in Turlington room 1315 instead of in the Reitz!

Besides that, Open Art will start on February 19th and the reception (with free food!) will be on February 22nd from 7-9pm.
