Florida Free Culture hopes to inform people of the benefits of open-source software as well as expose students to new issues in technology and protect people’s computers in the future, [UF networking security engineer Jordan] Wiens said.

Florida Free Culture member and free-software advocate Eldo Varghese has helped students with their computers before.

“Free software gives people a choice,” he said. “(There are) many freedoms that proprietary software does not have.”
