Both of Gainesville’s Congressmen, Cliff Stearns (R-06) and Corrine Brown (D-03), voted against Rep. Ed Markey’s Net neutrality amendment in the House of Representatives yesterday (Final Vote Results for Roll Call 239). This means the Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement (COPE) Act, HR 5252, passed the House without adequate provisions to protect Net neutrality.
The Save the Internet coalition has vowed to continue to fight for Net neutrality in the Senate.
“Telecom giants threaten Net neutrality,” by Dave Bruderly, Jacksonville Business Journal, June 2, 2006.
Mr. Bruderly is a candidate for Congress in Florida’s Sixth District, which includes Gainesville (see map of Alachua County, map of district). Bruderly is challenging incumbent Cliff Stearns, who voted against Net neutrality provisions in an April 26 Commerce Committee meeting.
